Iowa Association of Naturalists

The Iowa Association of Naturalists (IAN) is a professional organization that promotes the development of skills and education within the art of interpreting the natural and cultural environments. This non-profit group was founded in 1978 and now sustains nearly 150 members across the state.

Most IAN members are actively involved as professionals and volunteers in interpreting the natural and cultural resources of Iowa.

IAN strives to:

Establish lines of communication among interpreters for the stimulation of thought, exchange of ideas, and mutual assistance;
Maintain communications with related organizations and the public to promote interest in and understanding of the objectives of interpretive programs; and
Support the preservation and interpretation of areas that have significant natural and cultural values.

IAN meets formally three times a year during training workshops (spring, summer, and fall) and supports non-formal regional meetings and other events throughout the year.

IAN is a supportive network of people who share their ideas, enthusiasm, and solutions to problems. Join us!

T-shirts: “You Might Be A Naturalist…” t-shirts are
available in both long and short sleeve. Long sleeve shirts
sell for $15 and short sleeve shirts are $10. Shirts are
available at IAN workshops. You can also purchase one

Canvas Bags: Coming Soon!! Ian is in the process of
having canvas grocery bags printed. They will be
available at the Spring IAN Workshop for $10.00. These
bags are a great way to show your support for IAN.
Proceeds will be going to the Joe Halbur Scholarship.
